OptiLIGHT

OptiLIGHT by Lumenis is a light-based treatment designed to help manage the signs of dry eye disease caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), one of the most common causes of dry eye. The system uses precise intense pulsed light (IPL) and Lumenis’ patented Optimal Pulse Technology (OPT™) to deliver controlled light energy to the treatment area. According to Lumenis, OptiLIGHT is the first and only IPL treatment FDA approved for the management of dry eye disease due to MGD.

How OptiLIGHT Helps Treat Dry Eye


OptiLIGHT is designed to address several factors associated with the cycle of dry eye and inflammation. Treatment can help reduce pro-inflammatory mediators, improve tear breakup time, address abnormal blood vessels associated with inflammation, and improve the function and structure of the meibomian glands. Lumenis also reports that treatment may decrease Demodex mite populations, which can contribute to irritation and increased bacterial load around the eyelids.


Treatment with OptiLIGHT is designed to be quick and comfortable, with each session taking approximately 15 minutes. Lumenis describes a typical treatment course as four sessions and notes that its specialized handpieces and OPT™ technology allow providers to customize treatment around the delicate contours of the face while maintaining precise energy control. OptiLIGHT is intended to be used alongside other dry eye treatments, such as meibomian gland expression, artificial tears, and warm compresses, as recommended by an eye care professional.

OptiLIFT

OptiLIFT™ by Lumenis is a non-surgical system designed to tone and strengthen the muscles around the eyes, particularly the lower eyelids. As the muscles surrounding the eyes weaken with age, patients may experience lower eyelid laxity, reduced muscle tone, and less effective blinking. OptiLIFT uses Dynamic Muscle Stimulation (DMSt) to activate muscle contractions, helping improve tone while addressing both the function and appearance of the lower eyelid area.

How OptiLIFT Technology Works


OptiLIFT's proprietary DMSt technology uses electrical pulses to trigger nerve signals that activate the facial muscles around the eyes. The applicator is specifically designed for the delicate periorbital area and includes three predefined treatment presets to accommodate different facial contours. The system can also incorporate radiofrequency (RF) technology, which delivers controlled heat to the skin to promote collagen production, while an optional RF microneedling upgrade can be used for skin resurfacing and improved texture.


According to Lumenis, OptiLIFT can produce visible results through a series of four treatment sessions, helping restore muscle tightness and tone while improving blinking efficiency. Lumenis reports clinical results including a 70% improvement in blinking rate and quality, at least a 75% decrease in lower lid laxity, and a 286% improvement in tear breakup time (TBUT) in the cited study.
